FOX NEWS, FAIR AND BALANCED...?

Fox news used to be the channel to watch when you needed to find out about the

world, until recently. When I say recently, I'm talking about until president Obama

came to the picture. From the day he started campaigning to now, fox News has not

have a single good thing to say about our new president. Finding any little detail

to criticize him and the democrats. it make you actually ask yourself, if it is

owned by a republican or if they are actually racist. I remember when Bush was

president, making some decision based on personal feelings, or I would say bad

decision, all I used to hear was how many soldiers died in Iraq, but the fact that

the new president doesn't want to make any harsh decision for fights that are

usually not ours, he is being criticize, The fact that they chose Brazil over

Chicago for the Olympic games, Fox made it sound like it was his fault and they

actually sound happy that they chose another country over their own country due to

the fact that it made Obama look bad. What is it about him that scares Fox so much.

Is it his popularity or something else? Because of their reaction and their

criticism of the president, CNN and HLN had become more popular because people

actually think that if two News channel keep on counter attacking Fox and bringing

justification or clarification about what fox Says, then two against one. Fox must

be racist. The question is are they?

Madonna, born Madonna Louise Ciccone, is not only an icon because of all the many

hits she has made over the years, but for her provocative way of educating the

world. She has shock the conservative. She started a revolution for the women in the

music industry using her shocking sexual imagery, it also benefited her career, and

had an impact on public discourse on sexuality and feminism. She had a lot of

influence on a lot of artists such as Britney Spears, the spice girls, Beyonce for

different reasons such as her drive to achieve, her sense of control over music and

girl power. She has also received acclaim as a role model for businesswomen in her

industry, "achieving the kind of financial control that women had long fought for

within the industry" generating over $1.2 billion dollars in sales within the first

decade of her career. She had 22 nominations and 16 awards. She had also created a

rehabilitation hospital which is to me one of the best thing you can do to help a

community because people always need healing... And our Madonna do know something

about it. Madonna is a force to be reckoned, she has made possible for all the

upcoming female celebrities to get respect. She has made it in the business industry

not only as a singer but as a business woman who knows what she is doing and also a

humanitarian.

OPRAH WINFREY

One of the most influential people in the world has to be Oprah Winfrey. Her show is

watched all over the United States and in some countries around the world. Any

celebrities who get an invitation to her show feels honored, people who meets her

have their life change. She certainly asks specific question and listens listens

very carefully to the answer, at the same time, she always defend her point of view.

I usually agree with her, specially when it came to African American calling each

other using the "N" word, but when it comes to Caucasian, not Hispanic, nor Asian,

calling them the same word they call themselves, they consider it as an offense. It

was an considered an insult back in 1900, it is still one. Oprah Winfrey is trying

to educate the nation and find topics that she makes interesting so people can

listen. She is a humanitarian, has helped people in the United States, built houses

for the victims of hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, built school in Africa, and also

have a foundation named Oprah's angel. She has built The Oprah Winfrey Leadership

Academy in South Africa. She is a well respected talk show and one of the richest

person in the world.

3 great Icons of the world

No matter where you were from, you can not grow up without listening from Michael Jackson; he became my favorite singer of all time with the song “we are the world”. America’s got talent gives hope to everybody and make them understand that they can pursue their dream; the Statue of Liberty is to me the face of endurance

As you listen to Michael Jackson's lyrics, you can not not be touched by his lyrics, the sensitivity of the words. As you hear the person behind the artistsings, you realize that he actually care, /we tend to criticize what we don't know or understand. With his death, people started to realize how grand he was and how caring. I think that it is bad to see things so late. Even with the beating he got from the media, his fans, his fellow celebrities , he kept going, he kept his head high, even when they misjudged him and blamed him, he kept strong, until he died... Rest in peace MJ.

I was a little skeptical about America's got Talent, when I first saw it. But, when I saw that country guy and heard him sing, he touched my heart and I got hooked. So I kept watching it, and realized that they were really looking for talent, The realization amazes you so much, that, you actually hoped that you had talent so you could go get your chance too.

The Staue of Liberty is represent by a woman, whoever created it, maybe didn't understand what it would mean to each individual. Woman is strenght, they work, take care of their children, their husband. they are the neck of the human and the men are the head. they givve direction and give support. that is what the Statue of Liberty is... Resistance through hardship.

MARY KATE, JON + EIGHT

I have been watching reality television for a while, some I like and some not so entertaining. From the first day I watch Mary Kate, Jon + eight, I did not like it. I can understand that it is a big event for a woman to give birth to eight children at the same time, even with medical help, but as to parade them on national television, not so healthy. And it is funny that at first, it was good for Jon, but when he starts messing up, then realizes that it was not good for his children... I, personally, think that it is because the media is on him and his life is not so private after all. Did he not know that when he signed the contract, he no longer had a private life? That the company owns him… Some of us do actually ask ourselves if whatever is happening is not part of an act, because he is paid to entertain. The family should have also realized that when they signed that contract for more money or “to give a future to their children”; they also signed their divorced paper. How many celebrities have a successful marriage in Hollywood? Some even get a divorce after twenty or thirty years of marriage. If their marriage was not a masquerade from the beginning, Then Mary Kate and Jon, you should have know better

EBONY MAGAZINE

Ebony

Ebony is a magazine that talks about all type of subject, such as art and cultures, politics, etc, mostly concerning black people.
I used to buy the magazine but cancelled my subscription due to the fact that it is usually the same thing. I personally think that Ebony is doing what the old Vogue used to do, all black. The world has different ethnics, make sure you include the rest of them, not only people who are making a change for the African American, but for people who are actually doing something useful. And they need to evolved with the world. Every time, I open a Ebony magazine, I could have sworn that it’s always the same faces. When they try to make changes they get angry response that it should stay black.
People need to understand that, by including other races, it still going to be a black magazine. By only including African Americans, they are not evolving and still stay in that mind set that we have to prove something. We have past that stage, Vogue has evolved and past that racial issue they should too.

LEAN ON ME lyrics

Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won't let show

You just call on me brother, when you need a hand (Chorus)
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on

Second Verse
(Chorus)

If there is a load you have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me
(Chorus)
Call me (if you need a friend)
Call me (call me)
Call me (if you need a friend)
Call me (if you ever need a friend)
Call me (call me)
Call me
Call me (if you need A friend)

The Wikipedia describes popular culture as the breadth of ideas, perspectives, attitudes, images and other phenomena that are deemed preferred per an informal consensus with the mainstream of a given culture. Popular culture is to me, who is an African American, way for other race to understand us, our anger frustration, happiness and hope.. I am a soldier in the United States army, and we work, with all races, popular culture helps. Understanding and appreciating other cultures, like Hispanic by listening to their music, you can understand how proud and passionate they are, therefore, you learn how to approach them , what can offend them and try to keep our work environment as civil as we can.I am originally form Haiti, and I know with the Fugees ( Wyclef Jean) people start understanding us and not being afraid of what the don't know and not mistaking pride ( which I think we have more than the world :)...) for evil.

I chose this song because, it has touched and still is touching a lot of people. It has also given people an example of how they should be toward others. And so far, I see that the United States has followed the words in that lyric. because the world knows that if they need help, we are always there to give that hand, we stood by what we sang and believe in the words.
